When I was 12 I Bought my first dead cd from one of those music club buy 12 cds for 8 cent things they used to have. I have no clue why I bought it, I was listening to grunge at the time and when I got it I did not like it, way too country sounding. So that was the end of that.

Then about 5 years later on one fateful night I found myself in the back of this older cats car with a couple friends, spaced out on some blotter. Next thing I know a live version of fire on the mountain is playing and my mind was blown. I had found the music of my soul.

well . . .

well . . .

i'm going to keep this short.

i'd listened to tapes, albums, etc. heck, i'd been to a show, hung out at a couple. then, i transitioned from a rainy, stormy night in the parking lot of richmond, va into a sweltering coliseum. for a moment, i thought i needed wipers in the dim arena, but the colors splashing around were induced from the stage.

after posting myself to a really nice position in the phil zone, i sat down on the back of a chair and proceeded to let the show wash over me ("just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in"). by the second set run into drums, my jaw was on the floor. i knew each song played, YET HAD NEVER HEARD THEM BEFORE! trying to explain it was like trying to explain the "buster foyt" pages in a freak brothers comic: my world was pulled inside out and then lotus pedal exploded wide open.

i'd never heard color like that before, seen sound, felt emotion with tactile awareness. this, folks, was 11-1-85. i was on the bus.

many years later, i yearned for the "sound" i'd heard before that fateful night, just so that i could teeter on the precipice and fall into the rabbit hole fresh once again.

That night was one of my best experiences at a concet. The perfect amount of shroos, the perfect group of people, a great vibe, and, BOOM, GLORIA explodes. Wiped me out with joy. Will NEVER forget the sight of the entire arena bopping in perfect unison. Out of this world.
